In the picture attached would you be able to confirm if the circle bolt hole is supposed to be open through to the antifreeze passage? I can push straight through it and out the other side. To me it seems like it is going to leak.
Thanks for the reply. the threads seem ok. I also got new bolts as they look to have some type of coating on them. I just dont want to get all back together and then it leaks from there. was debating using some loctite on the threads to hopefully seal it more.
I recently replaced the thermostat on my euro-spec cts (started acting up short of 100.000 Kms).
I can confirm that the screws which fasten the thermostat housing to the engine block, go all the way through the engine block into the water jacket. As a matter of fact, the shop manual, in page 6-273, says that the screws have to be coated with sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) before assembly. However no word of it in the section dedicated to thermostat replacement. Not having access to those sealants, I used LOCTITE 572 anaerobic thread sealant on the threads, and also around the screw holes at the top and bottom of the housing (taking care not to stain the rubber seal with it). So far no leaks.
