When we lived in Wilmington, NC we could see rocket launches from time to time also, that's what got me started........it's just an awesome site to see something like this take place.

is it like the first time you saw a top fuel car run down a drag strip? or is it like the first time you saw 33 indycars come screaming down the front stretch at the indy 500? i bet it's better than both! gotta put that on my to do list.

Or 43 cars coming down front stretch at Daytona Speedway. Or my best ever, flying a 1944 T-6 Texan doing aerobatics for the first time.

Some time in fall the I'm going to Skipbarber Racing School to get licenced to race on the pro-level! Nothing like a little open-wheel racing action!!

I have experienced both of those and I can say they simply pale in comparison. While all that horsepower from a top fuel car, or 33 Indy cars is impressive, it just doesn't compare to the Shuttle. The overall power of the space shuttle at takeoff is about 11 GW or 11,000,000,000 watts of power.

That is about 15 million horsepower!



When I watched the last night launch at the VIP section you could see the power of all that thrust as it came across the banana river. It caused waves and when it got to you it was a wall of sound that was indescribable and turned night into day.



Truly something for the “to do” list.

Definitely something everyone should witness once in their life. It definitely puts the word POWER in perspective.
