Man this engine really does climb steadily all the way up to the limiter! Except for that dip around 5k! What's that all about? Something to do with the VVT I'd guess?

Knowing they were the same engine just wanted to make sure the intakes were the same. Yes, I have a 2.8...it's fine around town and a good dog hauler.

Check the .pdf file and the attached here; no dips at ~5k; my thought:?? something specific to the car being tested: same car, etc, with different intake configurations. Could it be related to the drop in RPMs due to trans shift and related to the wheel/ tires or to the dyno used ??

Re: The Great Air Intake Challenge

thanks for letting me procrastinate for 3 hours guys
the info was valuable, and it was more fun reading this than it is writing the freaking paper i'm supposed 2 be doing ( <-- )

for those who didnt want 2 read the whole thing and thought they'd just jump to the last page and get an answer, the results were:

volant = most hp gain
K&N just behind it, offering 5 hp less, but a lot more noise
then TonyA's
and finally the stock

for those who are worried about warrenty issues; over the summer i went to my dealer and asked if an intake would void my warrenty, the guy said that it would... I later read somewhere that the KN didnt void the warrenty, so before i do this mod i will go to my dealer and find out precisely whats what!

somewhere in the previous pages someone noted that u can always undo the mod before u go to the dealer and redo it when u get back. that way the warrenty wont b affected.

i want to say thank you to all the guys who were involved, u really did a great service to everyone who looked at his thread.

Re: The Great Air Intake Challenge

bringing this back up -- noticed something odd...

i think it was HaveBlue who recorded an 8HP gain with the K&N...
I just checkd K&N's site... (to make certain of that warrenty crap) and they dynoed a 14+ hp gain

Re: The Great Air Intake Challenge

The K&N is better for the 3.2L and the Volant for the 3.6L

Depends where you measure the HP. Rear wheels or at the flywheel. When you want big numbers you do it at the flywheel. I'm sure K&N did that as they can afford it and the numbers look good to the uninformed.

The paper that came with my K&N for my 3.2 says 12.9 for the rear wheels.
