    Question Cruise Control stopped working....

So I've found a few people ask this question here using search but nothing really answered my question. I need to know what to look for before I take it into a shop (btw would any normal car shop even know where to start with fixing this or would I have to take it to a dealership?).... I'm not incredibly knowledgeable with mechanic type things with cars so I'm not sure where to look. I do know where the fuses are... but I don't know which one or ones would work cruise control... I looked around on the manual and can't seem to find anything about it!

Any advice is appreciated very much.

    Re: Cruise Control stopped working....

define stopped working. In the sequence of setting the cruise control, at what point does the car not do what is expected. ie when you click cruise does the light come on, and the car not maintain speed, or is it as though the botton doesn't work. Is the check engine light on, if so what codes do you have. It could be as simple as a bad switch, and as complex as a funky module. be more descriptive in what the car is or isn't doing

I press the button and nothing happens... like the green cruise control light in the dash doesn't turn on like it used to. No check engine light, no codes.... idk if that would mean the button isn't working or cruise control won't turn on for some reason

I won't have the manual in front of me for a whole. But I must ask you to have someone drive behind you to see if your brake lights are constantly on. Don't just start the car and get out while parked, it may not show a problem unless you're driving.

    Re: Cruise Control stopped working....

I see 4 fuses, two are under the hood and the other two are some where in the steering column.

The two under the hood are labeled HTR VLV/CLTCH 10 amp fuse, though this maybe on the manual transmission only. The second is STRG CTLS 10amp fuse.

The two that are some where in the steering column are 2 amps each. One is inline with the actual "on/off" switch. While the other is inline with the "Set/Coast" push button. They appear to be between the clock spring and the car. This is for a 2005 CTS, which is your's anyways.

For my 2006 CTS, it doesn't make sense to have the clock spring involved because it shouldn't go through it. But there again, I've seen some strange things go through some strange areas.

Do you have Cruise buttons on the steering wheel? If so, when you press left button does it stay in bottom and is there light when its on?

Not to be a smartass, but is the slider switch on the stalk in the on position? Sometimes it gets bumped by accident.
