QuestionIn the market for a 1st Generation CTS

Obviously, I'll be looking for low miles and clean titles, but was looking for some input from the users on this forum regarding specific CTS issues to be on the lookout for. Every car has it's own unique issues list or problems that should be searched for when looking at a car.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be awesome!

    Thanks,
    Jason

I would say look out for:
    1. Any noisy sounds coming from the wheels - could be warn out wheel bearing. A Cadillac should be very quiet.
    2. Go for the 3.6L over a 2.8. - The 3.6 is flex fuel capable and has a timing chain instead of timing belt.
    3. Check to make sure that it has an external transmission oil cooler and that the original radiator was replaced. Lots of threads about that on this site.
    4. Make sure that everything works - all lights, all features.

The 2.8 and 3.6 use a timing chain. Neither are designed to run flex fuel.

I'd love to see someone dump that ethanol garbage into their CTS. The 3.2 is the belt driven six banger. And I believe that was 2003 models only, maybe early 04's.

AFAIK, the 3.2L was available for the entire 04 model year. The reason its rare is that in 04, the 3.2L was only offered with the 5 spd manual Getrag, while the 3.6L was only mated to the 5L40E auto.

the oil smell from oil leaking from the valve cover, bad brake lines, third break light going out because it has water in it, those are the common problems I can think of.
