| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | Blonde & Getting Ticked Ok, so I buy an '05 CTS with the base audio system, and the first thing I notice is that the speakers suck. But besides that, when I turn up the volume on some select XM stations, the volume does not go up. It goes up so far, and then that's it. It's like there is a limit. Then on other stations, it will blast me out. Now, I'm no satellite expert, but I thought that all the XM stations were broadcast out of one studio (California), so therefore, if that is true and the signal is bouncing off of one satellite, why is the volume different on different stations? Does this have nothing to do with XM? Is it something to do with the radio itself? This doesn't really happen when I play a CD though . Please, please, would someone explain this to me. I've decided to swap out the speakers (reluctantly), but want to get to the bottom of this volume issue. It's driving me nuts. I miss "crankin" the tunes! What are my options????? |

I'm replacing out the rear sub and adding an amp for it (only). The rest of the Bose speakers sound pretty good. My last car was an '04 Monte SS supercharged and I completely replaced all the speakers with Memphis brand, added another Alpine amp for the whole system and put a 10" boxed sub in the trunk. Let me tell 'ya, that system ROCKED!! I just left in the car when we traded for the CTS...........let someone else experience a good sound system for once.

The XM sound was different than local radio stations as far as sound and volume quality IMO........not to say it was "bad", but it did need a little "tweaking" with the bass, treble and balance controls depending on which station I was listening to, usually channel 46. You can call XM radio and have them "re-set" your radio and that might solve the problem. You have to have the radio on for at least an hour and no over-head obstructions while they do their thing.........

When they swap out the radio, you're disks go with it, and won't be coming back, since the radio is an exchange. |
