    What happened to my car?

On the way out of town today, my info center went crazy with notifications. One being "service electrical system" & "engine hot - ac off". When I got out the car & looked under the hood, the serpentine belt was shredded. Had to get car towed & since it's Thanksgiving, no one can let me know what's wrong until tomorrow. My car is a 2003 Cadillac cts. Can someone maybe tell me how much it would be to fix this?

Chances are your pulley's are bad, one or more seized and this resulted in the melting of the serpentine belt.

It's likely possible that changing the serpentine belts with new ones and repacing all your pulleys will restore vehicle to running state. It should be less than 2 hour labor and about $15-20 for each belt and about $20-30 for each pulley.

Whew. That's somewhat good news. Thank you!

the the serpentine belt spins the water pump, alternator and the A/C, hence the message "service electrical system" & "engine hot - ac off" because your alternator and water pump stopped spinning. I doubt there would be any damage as a result of the belt shredding, and you can probably replace the belt yourself. But check the pulleys if any of them are seized.
