ABS and Traction Control lights keep coming on.

2006 CTS, close to 153K miles. Comes on intermittently. It did it once every few months until today it happened to do it 5 times. Usually goes away once I turn the car off and back on.

Happens every once in awhile to me also, I did a bit of googling, and it may be just a sensor of some sort that gets dirty or has a loose connection. Thats about all I could find in a quick search.

    Hello GhostCaddy,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your ABS and traction control lights illuminating intermittingly. Have you taken your vehicle into a dealership to have them look into this concern? I do understand if you are just reaching out to the community for any advice or suggestions, but if you do plan on working with a dealership, I would be more than happy to help. Please feel free private message me if you would like to discuss this concern further.

With those lights ON bring it somewhere to get scanned with a scanner capable of reading C (chassis) codes, cheap handhelds can only read P (power train) codes usually. It is more than likely a bad wheel sensor, those are built into the wheel hub assemblies. It could also just be dirty or loose causing an intermittent issue. Get the code(s) and report back with their definition and we can help track this down a lot easier.

Unfortunately it happens at random and when I am usually traveling to and from work/school, so if I can time it right, I probably can do that.

If by chance you get it scanned when the lights are OFF there still should be codes set in the history that would detail what is going on.

Re: ABS and Traction Control lights keep coming on.

GM cars will "self clear" the lights if the problem is gone on the next start up. This helps on diagnosing the problem to being an intermittent problem. Some other manufactures will keep the light on, even though the problem doesn't exist any more. Which will make it harding to see if it was truly a bad connection.

I have a problem where my CTS thinks that I got into a panic situation and engages the ABS. Mostly when pulling into a parking spot or at the end of my road where my road goes down into the other road. When I would apply the brake as I am turning the wheel. The ABS senses a problem and engages. Only problem is that it continues to stay engaged even after I come to a complete stop. Lately I have found my self slamming into Park in order for me to stop.

I am hoping to be working on it this weekend. I know that my passenger hub's ABS sensor had threw a code before. So I'll be looking at that, probably clean the connection and what not.

I have the same problem but I'm sure it's hub. thw wires coming out of it look to have pulled loose, or at least come unsealed. If you haven't already done it, turn off traction control. Yhat doesn't solve the problem but it makes it more manageable. Check your wheel sensors for damage i.e. loose wires, broken connectors etc.

Turning Traction Control or Stability Control off for me won't help. However, removing the ABS fuse will. But that also disables the power steering.

I would almost bet its the wire to the one of your hubs.. i would get some electrical parts cleaner and check each one.. unplug spray the cleaner and make sure you have a good connection putting clips back together.. if that doesn't fix the issue then it would be a faulty hub which then you would need to find out witch hub is bad with scanner then replace..

I had the same issue, it was the slowly dying ABS sensor. Check the ABS housing for leaks (that's what gave the cause away). Replaced and problem fixed.

any chance this is happening while you are drifting around corners?

seriously though, its probably related to a wheel sensor or steering position sensor.
