I am asking for help from the forum in diagnosing a strange noise coming from the driver's front wheel. I have an 04 CTS 3.6 L and when I drive slowly such as in and out of parking lots, I can detect a slight squeeking noise. I have ruled out the brakes and it is not from the engine as the squeek only happens at low speed and stops when the car is not moving.
I am wondering if it is the wheel bearing, but there is no rumbling or vibration at higher speeds. Also, the nouise disappears at speeds over 25mph. Anyone have the same issue or any idea what it might be? I'm scratching my head over this one.
How did you rule out the brakes? It sure sounds like a brake pad. Pry the brake pads away from the disc and drive the car around in the parking lot without touching the pedal. Lightly apply the brakes and see if the noise changes. Look for a pebble caught behind a brake backing plate.
I know a break squeel and this definitely is not it. The noise is not continuous, but sounds more like a squeek, pause, squeek, pause, etc. Breaks were just inspected 2,000 miles ago, so I still wonder if it is the bearings. Any other ideas?
