Cadillac CTS First Generation Forum - 2003 - 2007 Discussion, Which one looks better? in Cadillac CTS Coupe, Sport Sedan and Sport Wagon Forums; Ok, I really did not like the orange color controls so I am experimenting with changing the led's. Which one ...
The blue one on the left, by far. I always thought the orange was atrocious, particularly in a Cadillac, and should have been black/blue/silver/white, etc. look instead. Red/orange can be done well (Audi), but this isn't one of those cases.
That is holy freakin awesome, how are you doing that? Are the LEDs what determines the display color? How hard is it to change em out, post some pics of the exposed electronics. That is one mod thats definatly worth the trouble.
Here is the circuit board and there are 16 Orange LED's for the background of the display. (The rectangle white colored area) I changed them with 16 Hyper White LED's. They are surface mount leds and its not too hard to unsolder them and replace them. (Took 10 minutes) They are available in numerous colors but I wanted the controls to match the speedometer and nav so I went with white.
that looks very nice. I would like to learn how to do that myself. Im only going to have my car for a little bit longer, but i would like to do this conversion. Where do you buy the LEDs?? Is it hard to take it apart?
Yes, You have to unsolder the old ones and solder new ones. Its really not too complicated.
I have also noticed that the climate control unit for the 03/04's might be slightly different than the 05's. The test unit I am testing with was from an 03 and I picked it up on ebay for $30. When I connect it the outside temperture was reading -3 degrees when it was 57 degrees. It could also be a defective unit but I dont really care since I was just using it to test to see how it would illuminate before I mod my factory controls.
