04 CTS engine sounds like a diesel engine

My serpentine belt broke while I was driving. My car started to over heat and I turned the engine off, coasted of the freeway and pulled over. When I turned it back on to move it, the engine started to sound like a diesel engine. I replaced the serpentine belt and now when I turn it on, it takes longer to crank and turn on. When I accelerate it moves with a delay. The diesel sound quiets a bit after a few minutes on but never goes away. I took it to the nearest auto shop pepboys (where I bought the serpentine belt) and the told me it needs a new engine.

    Has anyone had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Roy

Which engine do you have? The 3.2 where it has one belt for accessories. Or the 3.6 where it has two belts for the accessories.

A broken serpentine belt shouldn't harm the engine, unless something like Sammy Z suggested happened.

Did the helpful person at Pep Boys explain why you need a new engine?

That sounds to me like the overheating damaged something, possibly in the valve train. You said you turned it back on to move it, how long was it on at that point?

    I agree

I had this happen to me on a completely different car. The timing jumped and bent a few valves. The car seriously sounded like a harley or a diesel.

    It's a 3.2

    ----------

My friend checked the timing belt but he said it looked fine. I just pull n error code on P0341 which is the intake camshaft position (CMP) sensor performance Bank 1.

    ----------

I sounds just like a big diesel pickup truck.

    ----------

I am getting a P0341 error code which is the intake camshaft position (CMP) sensor performance Bank 1.

    ----------

I turn it on and drove it 30 yards or so, but the sound came on right as I turned it back on.

Re: 04 CTS engine sounds like a diesel engine

When the serpentine belt broke, my car overheated. The heat changed the shape of the engine springs, which is making my engine sound like a diesel engine. Also the engine hesitation when I punch it and it takes a while to get up up to 80. My mechanic said the valves got messed up too. He told me to drive it until it can run anymore, get a used engine, or forget about. Good thing I have another car.

Here it is in a music video. It's the fake Ferrari.
