    2007 cts ecm issue!!!

So yesterday, my key got stuck in the ignition with the Theft Mode System light on, tried everything i could look up to make it stop doing that but no luck. So I brought to a mechanic and he said that the ECM is needs to be re-programed. So than i brought to the Cadillac dealership and they said most likely i need to replace the ECM, but they haven't done the diagnostic check yet, he just said 9 of 10 times thats the problem. big thing is he said it'd cost $1100 ($800 for a new ECM, $300 for reprograming and labor) to do, and before i go blow over a grand on this i was hoping to see if you guys had any issues like this. I'd greatly appreciate feedback, thanks!

Your best bet is to get a salvage ECM and have the dealer reprogram that one to your vehicle's specs. That's ~$800 saved

    ----------

BTW according to GMPartsDirect.com the MSRP of the ECM is $537.14 $800 is quiet the mark up, I guess that's how dealerships earn their great name!

    MSRP Online Price
    $537.14 $279.31

I would either do what CTSM said and find one at a salvage yard or on ebay. Or buy a new one online and have the dealership install the new one. that way you only spend about 800 to 900 dollars, you get a brand new ecm that will come with a warranty of some kind, and you'll save about $200.

    Hello james.koukoulis,

I am sorry you had to deal with this issue. I understand your hesitation if the dealer confirms it to be an ECM replacement due to cost. I see CTSM offered insight to your situation. If you would like to further discuss anything with us, please reach out via private message or by email at socialmedia@gm.com.

    Sincerely,

    Re: 2007 cts ecm issue!!!

Here's my story with a bad ECM for my 2007 CTS
My 2007 Cadillac CTS gave me a message that the theft lock will not turn off. The key got stuck in the ignition. I couldn’t turn the car on and even put it in drive. I had it towed to Hill Cadillac a dealer in Newtown Square PA where I live. They diagnose the problem as a faulty ECM and needed to be replaced. The quoted price $1400. I agreed to the work. The bad news is that they can’t get an ECM from the suppliers they use. Three weeks later and still no part. My car sitting idle in there lot. During that three week period I called other Cadillac dealers in the area to locate a ECM and they told me the same thing. They don’t have one and don’t know when they will get one.
So I decided to call Cadillac support. After giving them my information, I was able to explain the problem and I wanted to know why the dealers can’t get this part. After about an hour on the phone and while the support person called the service department at Hill Cadillac, they authorize me to get the part and sent me three web sites where the part could be purchased. I then contacted Hill and let them know that I was able to track down the part on the ACDelco website as advised by Cadillac support. I gave Hill the option to purchase the part or I would. They refused to use any part that did not come from the normal supply chain. This after they talked to Cadillac support to confirm what I had arranged. Now ACDelco carries OEM parts and, I though, was affiliated with GM. The ECM I was buying was a brand new OEM. I called Cadillac support again and got a manager, who called Hill while I was on the line. When it was all over , support said they couldn’t help me and agreed with Hill’s decision. A complete reversal on what was told to me earlier and after I spent hours on the phone an searching the Web for the part.
It’s been very frustrating for me, not only being without a car for three weeks, but then Hill Cadillac tells me they won’t get the part I need, when I can find one from General Motors. Cadillac Customer support tells me that I can get the part from an authorized vendor, only to reverse their promise. I’m done with Cadillac, I found a private garage to do the work. So I sent a tow truck to Hill Cadillac and had it towed to a private garage who has experience replacing ECM’s.
I ordered the part from one of the suppliers suggested by Cadillac, Parts Manager. I order the part and was sent a tracking code. When I tried to look it up, the code didn’t exist . After 10 days, I received a text saying I was issued a refund. This was the only contact I received since I placed the order 10 day earlier. I called Parts Manager and was told that the part was damaged in transit and triggered a refund. I asked for another one to be shipped and was told it was out of stock. There were 10 in stock when I order. I’m skeptical , I think Parts Manager never had this part and it was never shipped because the tracking code was not found. They made me wait 11 days before notifying me. If they couldn’t get the part, they should have notified me early in the process.
I ordered yet another one this time from Flag Ship one, a reseller on Amazon. This one was reconditioned because I couldn’t find a new one. I added overnight shipping. I needed to give them my VIN number so they could program the module. They do the programming so the mechanic just needs to install the part. They call it plug and play. After a couple of days, the part didn’t arrive. When I called and asked why they didn’t ship the part, they said they has problems programming the one they had and had to get another. Here we go again, are they too selling a part they don’t have. But after another 5 days the part finally arrived. The garage installed the part in a half a day.
I waited 43 days from the time the car broke down. No help from the Cadillac Dealer or “Authorized Parts dealers”. I can’t believe that this part could not be had for almost two months.
