Putting HID guts in a Halogen housing???

    Has anyone done this?

I have one headlight on my 2006 CTS that is crazy fogged but all the electronics and washer work fine. I was wondering if all the HID and washer components would install onto a Halogen housing.

You have a washer in a halogen assembly? I thought they only come with the HID units.

He currently has HID headlights with the washers, it's just that one of them is very fogged over. I'm assuming he's asking if a halogen housing would accommodate the HID and washer components since he's probably considering buying a replacement housing and the halogen housings are MUCH cheaper.

To answer your question, OP, no you cannot buy a halogen housing and get everything to work like it is now.
The HID components will probably work, I'm sure you could install them in the halogen housing. However, the washers would not work at all. I have halogen headlights, and the little triangles where the washers would normally be are one solid piece of plastic. They aren't capable of popping out like the washers in the HID housings.

If money is a concern, I would suggest just buying 2 replacement halogen housings, sticking your HID components in them, and forgetting the washers. How much do you really use them? If you want everything to work though, you'll have to lay out the extra cash for the HID housings... :/

Sounds like this is what I will do. I have no need for the washers. Thank you very much.
