Radio tuner appears to have died.

    Car: 2003 CTS luxury/performance
    Radio: Bose with 6CD changer
    Radio additions: FM-MOD02

Issue: Radio plays CDs without any issue. However the radio tuner and when using the modulator for AUX input like an iPod returns no sound whatsoever. The failure was progressive, it started with the radio cutting in and out very frequently every second. It would be clear and loud and then a second later it would cut out completely. And now, its completely gone.

Steps I already took: I have pulled the radion out and verified that the antenna did not come loose and fall out. I think the FM-MOD02 has died, it intercepts the antenna so if it croaked that would mean its possible that neither radio NOR aux input would work. I need to pull the radio again and connect the antenna directly back up without the FM-MOD02 to verify that is the issue. If it is not im in trouble....

So what do you guys think? Has this happened to anyone before?

Hasn't happened to me, but, my first guess would be the stupid windshield antenna. Mine gets quiet in valleys outside the city and anywhere near lots of metal (I work in an industrial area and every time I go past the steel mill it almost cuts out). I've owned 3 of these cars and EVERY one did it. I'd look at the wiring coming out of the windshield into the headliner before anything else.

You have owned 3 CTS? Thats a lot!

But no its not just shitty reception, it croaked for good. It was crazy in and out, like one second loud and clear the next second gone so it wasnt so much a reception issue. Im 90% sure the internal tuner is fried or the FM MOD02 that sits between the antenna is shot. Right now that makes the most sense to me.

Angry Re: Radio tuner appears to have died.

I pulled the radio out shortly after my last post on this thread and I tightened all the cables and that fixed it until last night. Now it's doing the exact same thing. Static one second loud clear sound the next on almost all stations. I think it's the radio itself because even my modulator does it and that goes through the antenna. Any ideas guys? Wiggling wires doesn't appear to do anything. I've wiggled the windshield one as well as every one on the radio harness including the antenna.
