I would also add that this is a forum and a forum is typically the place that computer savvy owners go to help diagnose their problems. Trust me, I have owned dozens of cars and no matter what the price tag, they all have their own weak links. In the end, the CTS is an excellent car and when compared statistically with other makes, performs better than average. There isn't any reason why a well maintained CTS cannot see 200,000 miles or more.

So don't worry about little stuff. Maintain your vehicle, drive it like you stole it, and enjoy the ride!

I wouldn't say universal, but common, yes. Its not like a diesel would run 5w30(Our motor oil) or the same viscosity dif/trans oil. Different fluids are used for different applications, but they all much have the same objective in mind. Our car is optimized for 5w30 while a diesel or race vehicle may be optimized for 10w30 or 15w30 and so on. Your manual states what specification of fluid to use for each component, I don't know them all off the top of my head...searching will help too.
