I've had zero problems with starting my CTS until yesterday. I parked it, didn't leave any lights on or anything, and came back 30 mins later. When I turned the key, I heard a clicking/sparking sound, but the engine didn't turn over at all. Some of the interior lights came on. I let it sit overnight, and it did the same thing the next day. I kept the key turned for several seconds and after the clicking/sparking noise a few times, the engine slowly turned over and started up. I let it run for about 30 minutes, turned it off, and it did the same thing.
I don't think there is a problem with the battery, it's less than 2 years old. Would this be a starter issue?
A few notes: The radio is showing the battery at 14.4 or 14.5 volts. I'm not getting a Check Engine Light. When I got the car to start, the clock was wrong.
another point I would like to make blake050, I had autozone check my battery the first time also. they said everything was ok with the battery. so that is why I opted to change the starter. a couple of months went by and it started all over again, so mine was the battery all along. it just didn't show up on their initial tests. my battery was within the warranty period, so your battery doesn't have to be old to be on its way out. food for thought
Ill agree that even though the battery showed good on the initial check does not rule it out altogether. In my experience ive had a few batteries check good on the first check only to check bad later on on the same day. Sometimes its best to check more than once before you rule it out. Jesse
Thanks Kingoftypos. It's an Autocraft battery from Advance Auto Parts. I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if I can get it replaced. The only thing is I didn't buy the battery, it was already in the car when I got it.
