    2004 CTS Recall

My 2004 3.6 is 45 days old, has 1850 miles on it. Yesterday the first recall came in the mail. This has to do with front seat mounting and since the seatbelts are attached to the seat, this is an important safety item.

Prior to this with Toyota and Nissan products, no vehicle ever went back to the dealer for service. Needless to say, this CTS recall is disappointing and I hope not an omen of things to come.

Does anyone know if this recall work is apt to damage the interior of the CTS?

    Sadly, Cathanger

    Uh OH!

I really think you are getting a little to excited to fast. Look Cadillac is higher on JD Power dependability list than Toyota so I don't think you have to worry. Also I have owned an STS and now a CTS and I haven't been to the dealer for any problems so just relax it will be smooth sailing.

Toyota et al have certainly had their share of recalls, I think there's one out there on the Sienna gas tank right now.

I'm no particular fan of GM quality control, but this one on the CTS sounds fairly minor, particularly considering the limited number of '04 cars already in customer hands.

I also have a 2004 CTS that I have a little over a week. I registed onto GMLINK to get service information etc and there was a note that there was a recall about the front seat anchor. I had not received the recall notice in the mail yet. The CTS has been out over a year and cadillac should have its act together by now. I already made a list of 10 things that I believe cadillac should change. Most are simple. Other wise I love the car. My last car was an Aurora and it was almost trouble free.

Let me know if you find out if it is a major job to fix what they have to fix as I also DO NOT WANT THEM SCREWING THIS UP. Have a great weekend everyone.

Well It a good thing you did not by a BMW like an X5 that had over 9 recalls not to mention the recalls on other models. If you want to see long recall lists then check out your favorite German brands and you will realize that Cadillacs don't have those long list of problems. Also the recalls were for small items like the seat ancor that can be easily fixed and is not a serious mechanical issue.

Recalls? Yes, be glad you don't own a BMW. Cadillac is way above them in problems reported. The only German car above the Cad is the Porsche and by less than 2 percentage points. Buick is rated 4th which is above all the German cars. Cadillac is 7th. Cudos to the USA. I buy American please. I have an 04 CTS and this car is awesome and it is perfect. I am out of town right now but if I got a recall notice, I don't have a problem with it at all. The automobiles built today are far superior to anything built just 5 years ago and they are a great deal more technical and complex. If you own a new Cadillac, be proud you bought an American car and not some import brand from Asia. I am and there will never be an import in my garage. The folks at Cadillac have a goal to be the leader in the world with their cars. A lofty goal indeed but every article I have read in the auto journals says they are moving to the top at a rapid pace. There will always be the Infiniti's and Lexus's in the mix but I for one, support our American car makers and that is just the way it is. Audi and Volvo are way below the Cadillac as well. To Cathanger: Do you really think that they will damage your car in any way? Trust them to do it right. I don't think there is a car maker on the planet who has more desire to please their owners than Cadillac. Usually when a vehicle is recalled it is because there is continous testing going on all the time. Problems do arise and the fix put in the works right away. Stop the worrying and enjoy the great car you just bought. Mine rocks and I can't drive it enough. Is it possible to love a car????

Chill. They are solid, reliable cars. I view non-mandated recalls as a indicator that the manufacturer cares something about customers and their products. I remember when manufacturers would do anything to avoid a recall, even if the flaw was life threatening (Ford Pinto for one) Some Japanese manufacturers still don't recall enough - afraid it will ruin their reputation. I understand Toyota made V6 engines for years that had undersized oil galleys causing oil foaming and starving. They never did recall - just made a running design change.

Having the torque checked on a seat bolt is no big deal. The 2003s were recalled to check the torque on a bolt as a precaution. Turns out that almost none of the recalled vehicles was out of spec - better safe the sorry. Enjoy your CTS. They are build like a tank, and should give long, trouble free service.
