    Re: Dealer Transmission Flush

Well at least now you know to never flush a transmission. I learned that very expensive lesson on my 95 tahoe ls. Not even 100k on the 4l60e, got it flushed by the dealership, 4 days later it was dead.

    Re: Dealer Transmission Flush

Sorry to hear about your transmission.

I am 56 years old, owned many new and used cars over the decades, and have learned the hard way that the worse place to take any car for any problem is the dealer.

The guy that greets you (service writer) with the warm handshake and fake smile is on commission. The more he sells you, the fatter his paycheck. And unless you get a senior tech that was actually awake and listening during his GM training, the quality of the actual work is usually worse than anywhere else as well, because they don't care. There is another sucker coming in the door right after you. Because they are the dealer, and most people don't know any better, they never run out of customers. One would think that paying more to go to the dealer would get you a better job on your repairs because they have the proper tools and training.

But thats not the case. Because they dont care, it doesn't matter that they have the right tools and training, because they are just after your money and nothing else.

Good luck. If you get through this, next time just have a conventional fluid and filter change, make sure they clean the pan good, and you are good to go. Sure you don't get all of the old fluid out, but you also don't flush metal filings and gunk all through your system. I have mine done every 2-3 years.

    Re: Dealer Transmission Flush

Flushing a transmission breaks up a lot of sludge and particulate matter and moves it around into places that it should not be. Solenoids and valves get jammed up, and will often times fail as a result. You should have been fine unless it just expedited an already faulty valve/solenoid. You should still be able to get a full flush any time before 100k miles without ill result.

My tranny was slipping/sticking every once in a while, and I got the full flush even though I have 120k on my car pretty much to see if my transmission needs replaced. The flush seems to have fixed everything that was wrong with my gearbox. Firmer, smoother shifts all the way across the board.

Sorry yours did not turn out the same. You are under warranty and should be taken care of, if not, raise hell.
