    my horn doesn't work properly.?

So my horn wad going out. I mean it would be strong sounding then get weak. This listed about a week. Now nothing at all, no sound. Every now and then I can get it to honk but it will only honk the one time then nothing for weeks. Any idea? I don't think it's completely broken since it works sometimes

Check the horn bracket. It's using it for ground. Make sure the mating surfaces are clean and what not.

I didn't know that, thanks. I'll check that and let you know.

    Hello pinspade,

If you check the horn bracket like Kingoftypos said and that doesn’t work, and would like to take your CTS into the dealership for a diagnosis. I would be more than happy to assist you in working with the dealership. Please private message us if that is the route you would like to take. Keep us updated on this situation.

My horn died recently, too. I'm pretty sure the horn relay has gone bad, and your thread just reminded me I need to get that fixed.

Does your horn work when you lock/unlock the doors? (I normally have that feature turned off, but I turned it back on so that I could test to be sure it wasn't the horn button in the steering wheel that was bad.)

OK, mine is not the relay. Pretty easy to test the relay - pop the hood and remove the cover from the fuse/relay box. Open the driver side window. While standing alongside the car, reach in the window and press the horn button on the steering wheel. If the relay is working, you'll be able to hear it click each time you press the steering wheel. If you don't hear it click (or even if you do, and just want to test another relay) there are multiple, identical relays in the panel, so you can just trade with another one to see if the horn is still dead.

I unplugged the harness from the horn, re-seated it, and it works now. That's happened a couple/few times recently, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Didn't have time to fiddle with it more last night.

Do you have a pic of where the horn and harness is located? My horn just went out but the relay still clicks. Maybe I need to check the harness.

Look through the grille on the passenger side, you'll see the horns. They're bolted to the back of the bumper beam.

Passenger side??? I don't know how your's ended up over there. But mine are on the driver's side. Just under the air filter housing.

Re: my horn doesn't work properly.?

I know how they ended up there - GM installed them there. Must be a V vs. V6 difference. I thought about throwing the "it may be different on your car since I have a V" caveat in there when I posted, but I didn't figure there was any reason the horns would be mounted in different locations on the two versions of the car.

You can see mine here on the left side of the picture poking up from behind the bumper beam.
