    Is my Differential shot??

    I have an 03 CTS w/ 140,000mi hearing a lot of noise from rear end. had the bearings replaced in Novenber could they be shot already? (bought the cheapies from A1 auto parts) or is it the differential...how can I tell?... I jacked up the car and took this video...please give a look and tell me the bad news!

    Definitely louder on the right side. You need to get under & see exactly where the noise is coming from.

    Seems to be synchronized to the RPM of the wheel. One tick per RPM. Rotate the hub bearing by hand and see if you can feel it. (the tick) I've read other threads here that say that cheapo bearings don't last.

    cv joints? maybe the connection to your wheels to your rear diff is bad.

    Check your CV boots for tears, etc. Maybe the joints are dry.

    well, it does not seem to be the bearings, (no play or noise when out of gear)my mechanic can't look at it till this week end...I get the feeling from what I've read that the differential does not generaly go, but components of it does
