2004 CTS 3.6 lost all gears in tranmission

    Good afternoon to all,

I have a 2004 CTS 3.6 with a 117k miles. Never had any issues out of the transmission until now, always shifted smooth and went into gear fine.

Problem: Drove the car to work (55mi) parked. lunch came around hopped into car put it into drive and nothing happened, motor just revved.. Tried all gears (R,N,D,exc..) nothing works at all. No check lights on dash.

Had a friend get in the car and hold down on brake, climbed under car and manually shifted the sifter lever on the passenger side of the tranny.. no change

    any idea's?

    Thank you for any help.

How did your buddy manually shift on the passenger side of your tranny? Our cars are electronically shift, no linkage. Sounds like a overhaul is needed.

You might have had a hose pop off the transmission cooler and lost all your transmission fluid without knowing it. From what I have read on this site, it's a common problem. This happened to me last week and I was lucky to have spotted it before any serious damage was done.
