    Best engine for swap

So at 165000 miles my timing belt went. Now my engine is shot. I am going to replace engine. I am wondering what is the best choice for the swap. It is a 2005 2.8l. I am just leary of putting another 2.8 back in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a very wide open question. Basically, how much are you willing to spend, and how capable are you at troubleshooting? Are you willing to make a 30 page thread about your engine install with all of the drama, or do you want a simple 1-page install thread? Many engines will fit. Few will drop right in. Even fewer will plug up and run with very little work.

If you have a second car, mechanical capabilities, a good set of tools, then it's a wide open question. If you need it done fast, are paying someone to do it, and are somewhat on a budget, that limits your options quickly.

Me, I have an LS2 sitting in my shop if needed.

Heh, LS2, 6-speed, with one of these kits attached. It's really for my Camaro restomod project... some day, if I ever get back to working on my cars again. I bought a wrecked APS twin turbo 2006 GTO from a buddy. But it'd be interesting to see if it would fit in the CTS...

    Re: Best engine for swap

so to update. I have .2.8 engine and tranny out of car. and the engine tore down. the only damage done was 3 bent valves. my issue now is do I just fix it and put it back in or look into another size engine.

obviously I have the tools and the shop to swap engines. I have another car so time isnt really an issue.

money is always an issue.. if I had the money id just buy a new v. lol

$1500 would prolly be the limit give or take a few dollars

1500 your probably looking at just fixing the the 2.8 . And do a full tune up preventative maintenance type deal maybe use some of the money for suspension if the 165k miles has taken its toll on it kinda like a overall fix up for the car

I'd fix the car and put the rest of the money into it. Then maybe sell if for a different car or keep it. Who knows, you might enjoy how it drives once you're done.

The correct answer is LS7 no matter how you look at it.

    Will it fit? No idea.

Grab the top half off a 2010 turbo SRX. As in, turbo your CTS.

I wonder what all would be needed to add the srx turbo

At the very least, you need the turbo from an SRX to add an SRX turbo to anything.

I dont know if the rotating assembly is any different, but the heads are probably ported differently. So, heads, intake, exhaust. At a you-pull-it yard, you could probably grab it all up for $1,000 off a totalled SRX (if you can find a totalled 2010 SRX turbo). You would probably want to upgrade your exhaust to the CTS-V exhaust, but you can pick those up for $100.

4.6 Northstar or LS7 best Choice. NS must be installed with no problems
