Speedometer Reading 25 MPH Over The Actual Speed!

My 2003 Cadillac CTS 3.2 V-6 Speedometer is reading approximately 25 MPH over the actual speed. What would cause this to happen? If it is the speed sensor on the trans, what happens if it is removed, will the oil come pouring out? Since there is no
dip stick tube, how would I top off the oil level with what ever oil spilled out? Thank you for your support.

Are you in metric or standard reading? What does your HVAC read in, F or C?

Re: Speedometer Reading 25 MPH Over The Actual Speed!

I'm willing to bet I'm probably in the metric reading mode because we notice that the HVAC reading has strange new numbers as well. So, how do I switch it back to the standard reading? I recall this happening once before when we first purchased the car years ago. I don't recall how we switched it back to the standard readings. Thank you for your support.

Ok, I pressed the button on the right side of the radio display until I got to the English reading. Once I chose that, I noticed that the HVAC reading went back to normal. So, it had to be in the Metric mode. Thanks for your support and have a nice day.

In Metric the speedo will say KPH, in English, it will say MPH.

Hmm, there must be something wrong with the speaker in my car. Because I don't hear anything say "KPH" or "MPH".

Check your DIC settings, KOT, you must have turned off the talking speedometer at some point.

That's wierd..............that little motor you got shouldn't make enough noise to drown it out...........could also have something to do with the Nut that holds the steering wheel, I've heard that is the cause of many probs. .

I'd really suggest taking it into the dealer, sir. This is a very serious problem that should only be worked on by Official GM TechniciansŪ

my 2003 CTS 3.2L V6 is having speedometer trouble. all other gauges are fine. I have already changed the speed sensor on transmission and that wasn't it. what else could it be? Does the cluster need to be replaced? Or is there something else i should look at?

    Hello KOT,

I would like to appologize about the mute / non-talking speedometer you are experiencing in your CTS. If you would please private message me your name and VIN we can set up an appointment with your local Cadillac dealer so that we can address your concerns with the speedometer and also have that nut that holds the steering wheel examined.
