    Fuel Pressure

I have a 2003 cadillac CTS and was wondering if anyone knows what the fuel pressure range should read when the car is running? I read 50 when the key is in the on position but not running and 70 when the car is running. Seems to me like the pressure should decrease after starting the car. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you checking the pressure because you are having issues with the car? Im not a fuel system genius, but pressure will usually be higher when running. When you turn the car on the fuel system has a relief/bypass system to make sure pressure isn't too high. But when running the pressure is higher to maintain proper system pressure for the injectors. I had an Eclipse that was pretty insane and my turn key pressure was like 35 and I think the running pressure was in the 50-60 area. That's with an upgraded system but same pressure idea!

    Re: Fuel Pressure

The reason I'm checking the pressure is because I just installed a new fuel pump in the car. On my test drive after installing the new fuel pump I drove for about 15 minutes and it just died. Got back it home (via tow truck) it started the next morning. So that is the intial reason I'm checking the fuel pressure. I have also already checked the relay and fuse and all are working fine. Come to find out I believe it is the crankshaft positioning sensor. 70 seemed really high for fuel pressure when the car is running. I have searched the web for information "no luck yet".
