New 06 CTS Owner. .Power seats not working

Just recently bought the car. Purchased from a Mercedes Dealership. Both power seats aren't getting any power. I pulled the fuse box from under the back seat and replaced 30amp relay switch. immediately started getting hot. I looked through forum and found easy way to access seat by the 2 10mm bolts. i looked under driver seat couldn't find any broken wires.

Is it possible could be broken wire under passenger seat causing problem. is there easy way to track down short without going to the dealership.

thanks for helping out the newbie.

It's a short to ground. But is it in the wiring or the seats? (motors) Find out by unplugging the connectors at the seats themselves, then put the relay switch back in.
If it still gets hot, it's a short in the wiring which you can find with an ohmmeter. Otherwise, you have a shorted motor in the seat or short in the seat wiring.

which connectors are to the seats. when i removed lower seat to look at wiring there were 4 or 5 connectors under there.

Unplug them all, put the relay back in, and then plug the connectors back in, one at a time, and test as you go. You will then know WHICH connector is associated with the short because the relay won't
get hot until that bad circuit is completed.

OK, then don't unplug the airbag module. But disconnect the motors. Since the problem could be in ANY motor or circuit that is handled by that relay,
yes, you will want to unplug both seats as a diagnostic measure. Disconnect all motor plugs, and plug them back in one at a time until the relay starts to get hot.
The last one you plugged in is likely to be the bad one.

Thanks for advise unplugged everything started trouble shooting. looks like when they fixed the passenger airbag issue they didn't clip one of the lines back in and got caught between motor and frame. extremely small nick in wire caused a short.
