    Re: Solenoid location? p0443

It is in this picture. If you follow that tube from the T/B area as it bends around the upper intake. You can see it attached to a device with a white plug, or another hose, to it. That is the solenoid that you are talking about. It's only two tube connections and one electrical connection.

It'll take you longer to remove the plastic engine cover than it is to replace that device. lol Mine was replaced under the special extended warranty that GM ONLY offered on the 2006 model year. Why they offered it on that model year only is beyond me.

Thanks KOT for the helpful info. Is there anyway to check if this item is defective and if this is the part that is causing problems?

I have a question regarding to that purge solenoid. Is it normal that you will hear a thicking noise in that solenoid once you turn you engine on?

In a way. And it doesn't start ticking right away, it's normally delay 10 or more seconds. Mine ticked for over a year until it started given codes. As soon as it gave codes, I had it replaced under the special coverage that the 2006 model year received.

When replaced, the ticking went away and hasn't been back since. Nearly 2 years now.

Thanks KOT for answering my question. That special coverage is only for 2006 or 2007 models too?

Hm. I just ordered this part. Should I have just taken it into the dealership and told them? Or was it like an extended warrenty thing you had to purchase before hand?

Nope, just the 2006 model year. Non before or after.

It was something from GM, nothing needed to be bought before hand or whatever...

Hm. Nice. Thanks for copying that over. Although my service engine light isn't on so they probably would've said no anyways ha. It just started making noise and I didn't want to hear it ha.

I replaced the solenoid, but i am still getting the check engine light. How long/far do i have to drive in order for the check engine light to go away if this is the part that is causing issues. Also any ideas on what else might be causing this code? Please respond asap. I need an emissions test next week

Whenever you replace a part, any part, that caused a CEL. The code must be cleared in order for the light to turn off. Other wise at least 50 miles must be driven. Besides, the code will still be present in the computer as a History.

Clearing codes with a scanner gets rid of them completely, Current and History.
