    06 CTS 3.6L Purchased today!?!?!?!

just bought an 06 cts 3.6L vvt today black on tan and now only have about a million questions.

difference in "vvt" and other 3.6l , thought this was a standard v6 for GM?

its an sfi motor, sequential fuel injection pros and cons?

and what would be the first things to check out on this car 118xxx on her and clean car fax one owner plugs done at 80xxx brakes twice and that looked to be it other than meticulous oil changes. ive read a few posts on here about timing chain problems flex discs for the drive shaft? basically any input would be great Im sure everyone here has made some mistakes tooling with this car over the years and anything I should be aware of would be awesome thanks in advance

Normal V6 with a variator timing. No direct injection

VVT = Variable Valve Timing. Sort of V-Tec for GM. Under wide open throttle the valve timing changes, giving you more of an intake and exhaust stroke.

SFI means sequential fuel injection, means that (like just about every car on the market) the injectors deliver fuel sequentially instead of essentially flooding the rails.

Yeah, so pay attention to your oil consumption - big indicator of problems if you're eating a lot of oil. Some guys are adding a quart every couple of weeks, some don't lose a drop.

Have a good look if you can at the radiator fittings - have been a couple of reports of corrosion problems there, and if you have a transmission cooler look close at those fittings as well.

Some have had issue with a whine from the rear diff, meaning either low fluid level or possible synch issues.

Otherwise, have fun with your ride and welcome to the forums. Also, fyi - no pics, no new-to-you 06 CTS. Lol.

    Congrats!

Common issues that I am aware of:

    Flex discs
    Upper front Diff/Carrier bushing
Shift linkage bushings if it's a 6 speed
    Tranny fluid/filter if it's auto
Trunk shock (which you'd obviously know already)
I've heard mixed message on the timing chain - (fixed in 06 vs still a prob)

Not fixed in 06 as 07's got special coverage on their chains...issue isn't fixed period as it still exists in the 08+ DI 3.6...
