    Good Diagnostic code reader, recommendations?

I want to buy a reasonably priced code reader for my '07 Cadi CTS.

Wanted to know what everyone else uses or if there are better ones compared to others.

I decided I wanted to be hands on with my car so I can seem handy to my wife and save some cash!

    Thanks for your help!

Have you tried a more 'Hands On' approach ? That often impresses the Ladies.

I've got OBD software with the advanced GM Add-on so you have access to all the advanced parameters that any handheld scanner other than a tech 2 will not have, pm me or you can e-mail me at ellioth3771@gmail.com and I'll provide you the download link (don't feel comfortable just posting the link on the forum)

The only thing you need to purchase is the hardware, I have this one which also came with some free OBD software: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=120881191392

There are several different versions on e-bay that will work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ELM327-OBDII...item2324de2e83

Yeah that will work perfectly, same one I have! Just responded to your e-mail, the software I sent you is great for advanced ODB codes and troubleshooting but I also run one of the below with my iphone with the Dash Command App for my other cars, makes quick work of check engine lights and also give you dashboards for fun stuff:

CAn you explain how this works? I have an idea but assume im 107 and remember geting my license and buying my first horse and cart. The ODB scanner plugs into the regular odb2 port, and your phone communicates with it by BT?

Re: Good Diagnostic code reader, recommendations?

I have been playing around with Car Gauge Pro app ($6) on my android tablet and a blue tooth dongle similar to the ELM327 ($27)...
The Car Gauge Pro app allows to pull all the enhanced ODB codes (P, B, U codes- current, historic and intermittent)... pulled the data from a 99 Seville, (matched the DIC info), pulled the data from a 06 SRX and a 06 Silverado

Only app I have seen so far that had the enhanced diagnostic
Do any other applications exist that do this in the price range?

I use the torque pro app with the bluetooth adapter that plugs into your diagnostic port. You can use it with your phone but i prefer my tablet cause its much easier to see. I have used it on at least a dozen different cars besides my own and couldn't be happier. It reads all codes and also gives live drive info. The app cost like 6 dollars off the play store and the blutooth adapter was 25 dollars off Amazon. There are several different apps available that work with the blutooth adapter but ive only used the torque app so I can't speak for the others. Jesse

Innova scanner 3160b. Not quite what the guys are using listed above but it does all OBD codes plus manufacturer specific codes. Real time data, exhaust and ABS/SRS. Just upgraded to it. But there are tons of far more advanced scanners, but you said affordable. The GM scanners/tools are beyond me.
