Try the cheap, easy, simple things first, like the fuel filter, in this case.
Also, a guy once called me about a crank, no-start situation on his car. After much Q&A, and suspecting intake tract issues (e.g. squirrel nest) I told him to open the air box, take out the filter and try it. Bingo! Turned out the air filter was the original part with nearly 200k on the car.
