tranny Sychros for 2004 5-speed manual

    Hi

It seems that after all, my synchros are gone, as I cannot downshift from 5 to 4 (others are gone).

The problem is, I cannot order new ones (seems to be discontinued) and I also cannot find any used or aftermarket ones....

    Anyone can help?

    Thanks

Also, if ya do a little research I am sure this tranny was in other cars also. You should be able to find a replacement. While its out, do a good clutch and better flywheel and it will be ready to tear it up!

Re: tranny Sychros for 2004 5-speed manual

here in europe it is hard to find any CTS in a salvage yard, luckily I have a US address to get things shipped to.

Thanks for the links, the one was posted on 2010-06-04 so not sure if is still available but I have written to both...

Regarding other cars, yes, It was used in BMWs as well, but what I have read it is not one-for-one compatible and the gear ratios are slightly different

Ahhh crap I should have looked at your location. Sorry about that. I wouldn't worry about hear ratios, just see if it can be swapped out.

Considering the extent of your problem are you sure the clutch isn't dragging? Worse comes to worse you could always double clutch like you do with a "crash box" tranny that has no synchros at all. Especially on the downshift.

double clutching doesn't work, tried that already and it doesn't let me go to 4th the same as when pushing the clutch once
When going from 5th I have to go a little towards 3rd and then it goes to 4th without problems. Shifting upwards goes all ok on all gears as well downshifting on all except from 5th to 4th

I am sure it cannot be swapped piece for piece(BMW users were discussing this on their forums), I already have a getrag 260 from a BMW en route to me, knowing that maybe the internal parts will be salvageable for my getrag, but probably wont so already getting a B plan ready[COLOR="Silver"]

I am assuming that you checked all the shift linkages also? Maybe you have a bent arm or something.

my service technician did, first they thought it was the bushing on the linkage that connects to the transmission, turns out it is not...
But, I can ask specifically, what do yo mean with bent arm?

Haha sorry, bent arm was me thinking it was an auto. Brain fart. You could have a bent shift fork or something wrong with the bottom of the shifter. You will be able to see when you get the tranny out and inspect the internals. It just seems odd to me that more than one synchro would be bad. I would think that it's something else. Get that tranny out and inspect everything. I bet it's not the synchros.

They did that, and think that the problem is in the transmission, probably the synchros... they will open the transmission next week when the BMW counterpart arrives to see them side by side.
The problem is, that Cadillac is very very rare here and thus mechanics don't have any experience with model-specific problems...
