Where to install DRL LEDs on a CTS

    Hi

Here in Europe where I drive we have mandatory Daylight running lights... Since the CTS option of DLRs are the orange turn signals this is a No-go here as the lights have to white, one option is to use the low beams or to install aftermarket LEDs like these for example: http://store.ijdmtoy.com/Hella-LEDay..._ddl_sku78.htm

Now, my question is, have you seen somewhere outer LED sets for a CTS 1st generation? Or if not try to advice me where to install the LEDs as I found no 1st gen CTS with front LEDs installed.

    Thanks

Could just use a clear 3157 bulb in the DRL socket...unless your turn signal MUST be amber

You must of been in the STS far too long my friend...

The CTS has an amber lens with a clear 3157 bulb. :P

To the OP, my only advice is to use the fog lights. You can add a wire to the relay to make it stay on all the time during the ignition switch.

But I must ask... why do you need to have forward facing white lights on all the time? I mean I know it's a law and everything, but wouldn't "older" cars be grandfathered in? Here in the states if I were to buy a 1969 Plymouth RoadRunner, I don't need to install a 3rd brake light, air bags or anything of that such.

Unfortunately the turn signal must be amber

Also not possible, since the law here sees fog-lights as a different type of light which are allowed by law only to be turned on in specific situations (fog, heavy rain, heavy snow.. etc).... having fog lights turned on a bright sunny day will only attract the police with a fine...

But I must ask... why do you need to have forward facing white lights on all the time? I mean I know it's a law and everything, but wouldn't "older" cars be grandfathered in? Every car that wants to get a license plate and thus be allowed to drive on the roads here needs to pass a technical check that the car is in roadworthy shape and then redo this check every couple of years.
For example 3rd brake light is not mandatory here but rear fog lights are... BUT, regarding DRLs the law gives options and specifications what is allowed, I can have separate halogen lights(some makers install a separate bulb in the fog light housing), LED lights (either separate light bar or built in like Audi devil eyes or BMW Halos) and in the case you have none of these you just use your low-beams which is perfectly legal as well.

But, I would like to use the LEDs and thus I am asking for tips on where to install them or if you have seen a set with a housing designed specifically for the CTS (like this for the ford focus: http://bit.ly/TfKrNZ )

    Thanks

If you have a mesh grill you can do what I did and install LED DLRs right behind the grill.

Re: Where to install DRL LEDs on a CTS

The grill option look great, although here it woulb not be approved since the lights are obstructed (EU bureaucracy strikes again) you would either have to put them on the grill or cut a hole in the grill

switchback LEDs looks ultra cool, but yet again EU bureaucracy comes to action and forbids this as the it would mean tuning the turn/fog lights, not to mention If I would find clear lenses here they would not have the mandatory E-mark which means it is approved for EU roads, this is also the reason I cannot use any of those aftermarket headlights sets sold in the USA: http://bit.ly/SNlFID

Anyway, I emailed to some shops that specialize on EU-approved DLRs here in europe, of course they never heard of anything like a CTS but they basically gave me 2 options:

1, easy to do, regular LED bar: http://bit.ly/RhpWUL
2, harder to do, drill holes to the bumper: http://bit.ly/T7KfR4

they also pointed out, where they would recommend attaching them

Along the bottom would look pretty badass I think...the bottom portion of the lower grille is probably the best aesthetic appearance area that I can see.
