Question just bought a 2005 cts...

going to install a kenwood navi system from best buy on monday then i realized that i lose the top screen that has my , engine oil levels, gas levels etc. should i get a factory cts navi or the stick with the kenwood one? the kenwood is from this year 2012 and has cool features like bluetooth for my iphone but i want to have the maintenance levels on the screen.
    questions:
1)where can i get a BRAND NEW cts 2005 cadillac navi system?
2)does it have to be 2005? ( will second gen navi's work? kinda of want a newer one for the newer features?)
3)should i still with the kenwood and if so how will i know when i need to do my maintenance? also i like how the gas mileage is on the upper screen.

i am a new cadillac owner and i dont want to put crap into my car... there a way i can keep that top screen AND the kenwood? i seen a video on youtube and it looks like the whole piece is connected.thanks!

Have a look in the FAQ and DIY sticky, there is something called the dual din while retaining DIC mod that should fit the bill for you

There is no where on that screen that shows oil level. Do not fall into that misconception.

That is oil life NOT level...77% left until next oil change.

If it was the level you'd be approx. 1.5 Qts. low...

All you'll lose is your trip odometer, fuel information, like mpg, fuel used, etc, transmission/oil life monitors...

But you won't be able to program any features, like the delayed locking, greeting message, etc...look through all the settings you can change via the OEM unit, then imagine not being able to do any if it. Then make your decision.

I'd scrap the DIC in a heartbeat, too much work to keep it.
