Why would a CTS start up and clunk out immediately?

I turn key, it starts up, and then immediately clunks out. I rev pedal while starting it and that gets it to run. This happened many times in one day... and hasn't happened since.

    Any ideas?

When I wouldn't hit the gas it would turn over and start, but then immediately clunk out. The volts read OK on the radio. I think possibly something to do with the fuel cause the gauge was reading inacurrate a month ago, it was slightly under 1/4 tank so maybe I ran out of gas. It starts fine now though so I just can't figure it out.

Check the hard plastic tubing from the air filter housing to the intake plenum. Make sure all joints are tight and there are no gaps between the different pieces, especially on the bottom side where you can't see them. I had the same start/no run problem after changing an air filter, and it turned out to be a gap in the intake air plumbing.
