Red fluid dripping, Trans or Antifreeze ???

I have the 2.3 with 180k miles, every day I see about 4 drops of red fluid under the car. I slid under the car but can't seem to identify the source. The coolant level is down slightly but not by much. How do I tell if it's coolant or Trans oil?

Do you have an idea where it's leaking from? I mean where on the ground is it in proportionate to what is above the drip sighting?

Pour water on it, if it turns pink it'll be trans fluid/power steering fluid, if it just washes away it'll be coolant

Thanks guys, I'll try pouring water on it. It's hard to see where it's comming from and if I taste it, what should it taste like, cool-aide, lol.

Is it under the engine, centre, left side, right side, or farther back around the front doors ? It's not hard to tell the difference between A/F & Trans. fluid.

might be tranny fluid leaking from the tranny cooler lines in the radiator, check the cooler lines where they attach to the radiator and see if they are wet, if so stop driving now before they fail completly andtranny fluid mixes with coolant and ruins your transmission, it happend to me last month.

Re: Red fluid dripping, Trans or Antifreeze ???

Thanks everyone for your inputs. I notice that my A/F tank is a little low so I'm guessing it's that. The leak only seems to happen on hot days so I'm not taking any action, it's easier to add fluid every now and then. I have a suspicion that the leak is the two "O" rings that are on the extension tube at the thermostat housing. When I did the T-stat last year I thought it was a poor design. BTW A/F is poisonous and I tasted it, so this may be my last post, LOL

BTW DexCool is not poisonous, it's organic so it has less of an impact on the environment than traditional Ethyl-Glychol coolant.

Only the green stuff. The Dexcool only has a semi-sweet taste with a linger after taste of vanilla. ;-)

The only red fluid that should be coming out of the car is tranny fluid. Whether it came from the tranny or ps unit is the question.
