Well first of all, it's PCV (positive crankcase ventilation), not PVC, (poly vinyl chloride ) plastic pipe.
I tried the breather, via a lawn mower air filter, for a while but the wife complained of that awfull smell in the garage after the engine was shut off. I went with a modified catch can instead and am very satisfied with that. Throttle body stays a lot cleaner and no oil in the intake tube and no more stinky fumes which could sometimes be smelled in the car at stop lights etc when I had the open to the air breather on the valve cover.

If installing a breather and deleting the fresh air tube. make sure the barbs are capped and if you use an open breather you will have excess unmetered air entering throwing the fuel trims off and the fumes venting. The RX breather has a oneway checkvalve integrated into it that only allows fresh air in and no vapors out and it also controls the amount of air entering so that it is only an amount the PCM can adapt to with acceptable parameters.
