Cleaned my throttle body and now car idles rough

So i cleaned my throttle body today and it was really really dirty. Now that it's clean, it Idles rougher than before. The rpm bounces up and down between 6500-7000

It used to idle a little rough before but the rpm never used to move.

I'm gonna clean the MAF sensor now, but any other ideas?

I should note, I have changed the spark plugs, Air filter, coolant and the car runs very well slow speeds, high speeds all around, it just doesnt have a smooth idle.

I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and the Idle is wayyy better now. It's better than how it was originally before I cleaned the throttle body so that's very good. However there still is a slight hover in the rpm at idle.

I'm gonna order a new Cam position sensor and crankshaft position sensor since they are known to go bad on this car. I've read they cause poblems at idle, can even drop enough to shut the car off.

    Anything else I can do?

maybe try the trottle re-learn procedure. no real proof that it is necessary, but maybe worth a shot.

Ya I came accross that earlier and scared the shit out of me lol I put the key to on position for 3 minutes, then off position, then started my car and the car would die right away after starting. I couldn't get the car running. I had to reset the computer again and then the car started up fine.

I might try the re-learn thing again but I wasn't a fan of it making my car fail to start the first time I tried it

If your throttle body was dirty enough, the ecm might have changed settings enough that it would need to relearn....at least thats what Ive been told before about this. Ive heard of this a few times on different late model cars.

Well a big thanks to all 3 of you who suggested the re-learn. I don't know what happened the first time I tried it but I just decide to give it another try after you guys all suggest it and it worked! My RPM is now sitting smooth at 6500 and doesn't move.

I re-pulled and checked all my spark plugs today for norhing LOL.

So lesson learned, you really do need to do the re-learn after you clean your throttle body.

Car still feels a tiny but rough at idle but I'm still digging into this car to see what's going on atleast the RPM problem is solved

    Thanks again

Oh also I want to mention when I press the gas from stopped, it's way more responsive now after the re-learn. It's not even funny. Huge difference. Car takes off right away.

Mine would be a little rough if idled at 6,500 too.

Glad that the re-relearned worked. Enjoy your new car.

Re: Cleaned my throttle body and now car idles rough

HI I AM A MECANIC FOR 10 YEARS AND I GOT A CADILLAC CTS 2003.
I SEE ALOT A PEOPLE ON THIS SITE WHO TALK ABOUT THE (TPS).
AND SAID THE (TPS) IS INSIDE THE TROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY ON THE CADILLAC CTS 2003-2004.
ITS TOTALLY ROUGH THE (TPS) IS INSIDE THE (PPA) (PEDAL POSITION SENSOR)AND NOT INSIDE OR OUTSIDE FROM THE TROTTLE BODY.
IF THE (DTC) (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) SHOOT (TPS) SENSOR YOU BETTER CHANGE THE ALL COMPLETED GAS PEDAL.
THE BLACK MODULE ON THE SIDE HOV THE TROTTLE BODY CONTAIN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT.
(1 ELECTRICAL MOTOR 3 LITTLE GEARS AND 4 ELECTRIC RESISTOR) NO (TPS) ON THE TROTTLE.
    THE (DTC) IS........
    P0220 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch B Circ Error
    P0221 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch B Circ Range/Perf
P0222 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch B Circ Lo Input
P0223 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch B Circ Hi Input
    P0224 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch B Circ Interm
    P0225 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch C Circ Error
    P0226 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch C Circ Range/Perf
P0227 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch C Circ Lo Input
P0228 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch C Circ Hi Input
    P0229 Throttle Pos Sensor/Switch C Circ Interm

ALL IS ABOUT A BAD (PPA) OR BAD WIRERING DON T FORGET.
IF YOU FIX THE (PPA-TPS) AND NOTING CHANGE. ITS PROBABLY THE TROTTLE LOW VOLTAGE READING OR BAD WIRERING HARNEST.
AND THE WORST CASE IS (ECM) CAR COMPUTER.

THE (DTC) CODE FOR THE TROTTLEL IS.....
P0219 Throttle Sw B Circ Error/Eng Over speed Condition.
IF THIS APPEN TO YOU CHANGE THE COMPLITED TROTTLE ASEMBLY AFTER YOU ALLREADY FIX THE (PPA)PEDAL POSITION SENSOR.
YOUR PROBLEME STILL SEND THEM TO THE DEALER AND SAID TO THE MECANIC CHECK WIRE AND (ECM)

    NEED HELP JUST ASK.
