Oh sweet, i'm going to have to do this! I actually have a newer fob somewhere I got a year ago I was going to have the dealer try to activate but I lost interest. I'll have to find it.

I hate.....HATE this outdated fob. Hell the first car I ever had was a 1997 camaro 12 years ago and it had the same damn FOB! C'mon, it's a cadillac GM...you can't change the style. The car I had before this was a 2006 grand prix and it had a similar fob but it was still different, that one seemed updated. This is just old.

You have to plant 10 $100. bills for the tree to grow.........but you have to tell me where you planted it and I'll stop by one night to put the SPECIAL fertilizer on it. Don't check to see if it's growing for 6 months. LOL!!! If I could get 4-5 people to fall for that I'd have the funds to do several mods....

    DUmb question.
What's so special about the new FOB besides the style?

Mostly that it just looks more appropriate for a Cadillac and not like a Rental car or cobalt FOB

so you don't need to purchase brand new fobs? you can use the older type fobs and pull the internal components in the casing of the new fobs? I purchased 2 newer fobs as replacements for my older style. The newer ones were both #2 and they both wont work. Only one at a time. I thought you could take any and program them and it didn't matter if they were #1 or #2. Now I have 4 fobs but only one works. Anyone know how I can get all 4 to work?

If you look at my link on the first page there is basically a full write up. I'm not hiding the details from anyone. I got a lot of interest from other V owners to have me do the work. So I am in no way out to make a profit.. only to provide a service to people who don't want to do this on their own.

Correct you cannot use the internals for the new style FOBs, they are useless on the gen 1 CTS. Your only option would be to gut swap your gen 1 fob internals. Now there are multiple way to do this, i.e. using a custom PCB and removing and replacing all the old components onto the new board so it fits in the new case perfectly or modifying the new case to fit the existing pcb.

Yeah, I would rather pay and have it done. I'm afraid I'd screw up somehow. Thanks for offering this service!

OneFast V, I am new to the forum. As I only signed up due to you noticed progress with the upgraded key FOB. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan as an active duty Army Soldier, I have a few weeks before I redeploy back to Fort Bragg NC. I would like to send you an 1st Gen FOB & 2nd Gen FOB, for the upgrade. I don't know how to PM, but please contact me at mr.carolinacation1@gmail.com or daniel.n.croker@us.army.mil.
    Regards

You can shave off quite a bit of the circuit board of the fob rather than cutting into the new one, I did this when all I could find here was hummer keyfobs and the size difference was minimal but enough so the board wouldnt fit, sanded it down quite a bit and it fitted nicely.
You could also extend the buttons via insulated wires so that all of the buttons work including the panic, just basically using the new board as a jumper board to make the contacts, might have a bash at it myself
