need help on some question i got for a cadillac cts 04 3.6
i own a cadillac cts 04 3.6 runs great, have no problems what so ever. wanted to see if anyone knows when am its recommended to chain the timing belt on this type of vehicles. hear that in the 3.2 it must be done at 100k. like i said so far my runs great but i wanna make sure i change it before it goes bad.
also has anyone change the key cylinder on the globe box?, my handle broke so i got a use one from the junk yard with the old vehicle key cylinder.but don't know how to swap them..
would be great if someone helps me out.

There's no timing belt on a 3.6 It's a chain. It's supposed to last the life of the engine. But, and it's a big but, They are known to fail and you are usually looking at a valve job when they do. There's now real mileage requirement but if you start getting noise from the chain it would be a good time to replace it.
Keeping a close eye on your oil level make sure it doesn't get low. And change it faithfully about 5000 mile is the best defense for timing chain failure

Don't have any idea on your glove box lock. It should be just held in with a clip once you get the latch out

Thanks for the quick respond, I always do the oil change at 5,000 miles so far it seems like there's no problem I'll deft keep a eye out for any noise.

The timing chain noise you want to listen for is a rattle loud enough to hear from the driver's seat that lasts for up to 5 seconds at start up. It won't go away. When you begin to hear it, have the chain changed. If it breaks, which it will from that point, it will damage the valves and cost up to $2000. Replacing the engine with one from a lesser make is cheaper and we almost have all the bugs worked out. Replacing the chain before it actually breaks is still expensive.
