usually its the transmission cooler line leaking right by the rad...the rad section breaks and you will nbeed new lines and a rad...or go with a aftermarket transmission oil cooler.

you need to get it up on a hoist and make sure its not leaking from the tranny pan, i am yet to hear of a cts with a pan leaking, but its just a cork gasket just like every other car so its entirely possible.

sorry to burst your bubble but its not cork...gm hasn't used cork gaskets since the 70's, its a reusable rubber/plastic gasket

trans cooler line running from transmission into the radiator, i'd bet $100 on it.

I did mine before it became an issue. it happens to a large % of owners.
I had the rad capped up, the threaded part basically jb weld packed back into the radiator, and ran an external transmission cooler. Had it like that about a year now.

Otherwise, you'll replace the radiator (with one with the same weak design), and eventually, it'll fail also. I'd go ext. cooler all the way. B&M makes 'em, if nothing in the trans is damaged, I'd do a drain\refill on trans fluid, run an external cooler. External coolers run about $40-80 for a decent one that you can daily drive with, even aggressively, and isn't hard work if you are at least partially tech saavy.

As long as no coolant got sucked back into the transmission, the trans should be fine. I'd suggest a drain and a refill, along with an external cooler. It would be the best way to go.

Gasket leaking means faulty gasket or loose bolt, which causes the pan to shift and damage the gasket.
Rubber goes bad with age and heat.
Reusable? No...also the filter kit comes with a new pan gasket.
Also, you are wrong about the cork, gm does still use cork...maybe the cts isn't cork but lots of other recent ones are. So are honda, jag, toyota.
But go ahead and re-use your leaking gaskets if you want, its not my car...
I've seen someone try to stop a pan leak with spray paint.....

Trouble with cork is, people tend to over tighten the bolts, thereby compressing the cork to the point it no longer does it's intended job. Like on valve covers, trans pans & thermostats.

that's why if you follow 80% of gm's procedures it even specifies that if its equipped with the plastic/rubber gasket to re-use that and not to use the rubber one that comes with a filter kit. and on the the cork note which gm car still uses one? have yet to run across a newer gm that still uses cork. its either plastic/rubber gasket or factory rtv. if you use rtv only use the "right stuff", any other that comes in contact with petroleum breaks down within about a year and starts to leak, but am really curious on this cork gasket?!??

It all starts with a tree in Africa. But don't worry, it is a renewable resource.

Re: 03 cts 3.2 sperts/luxery pkg 56k miles leaking trans fluid!

Seems kinda pointless to get a new gasket in the pan kit and not use it...
I'll check the shop manual when I get a chance (prob next week) but I don't think it says re-use...it may say inspect old gasket and if it appears to be in good condition it may be reused, remember the repair manual is written when the car is new or pre production, so some directions are based off this service/ repair is being done, maybe on a 2 month old car, maybe on a 10 year old car.

As for cork, I've seen plenty of those kit hanging in the service department where I go...ill see if I can dig up models for you
