Remove steering wheel trim covers to get to ignition switch?

I'm struggling with getting the upper and lower trim covers off from around the steering wheel. The right side by the key doesn't seem to want to separate as easily as the snapped other sides. Does anyone have some help to offer? I'm trying to get at replacing the ignition switch. Thanks.

I figured it out. There's an access hole under the key switch. When you stick a stiff point through that hole you can pull the key cylinder out and then remove the lower trim cover. You need the inverted torx wrenches in order to remove the ignition switch. On a side note, I swapped the ignition switch but that didn't do it. I have that common problem of key stuck, certain lights on, certain lights off, etc. I'm moving on now to the ECM.
    rgvcts and rgvcts like this.

You did the right thing, now you gotta go to the dealership so they can program the key to the new switch.. They told me 400 dollars

thats not true.you don't program the key to the switch, you program it to the transponder thing, you can program the key yourself.just google it.

These programming procedures are only good for USA built vehicles.

The first digit of your 17 digit VIN number must start with the number 1 or 4.
If your VIN number starts with a 2 or 3 or a letter these procedures WILL NOT WORK.
    1. Insert an existing programmed working key into the ignition cylinder.

    2. Turn ignition to the ON position for 5 seconds, then back to OFF position.

    3. Remove the existing key and within 5 seconds insert new key and turn
it to the ON position for 5 seconds.

    4. Turn key OFF then back to ON. The key is now programmed.
    Start vehicle to test key.
