is that the driver's or passenger's side of the trunk
    i can't tell?
the harness should be on the passenger side with the xm connector bit long enough to go across most of the shelf from the main bundle of the harness

KOT, that 'grille' is a one way vent (lets air out but not in)
it allows you to shut the doors
if it wasn't there (and there were no air leaks in the car) it would take a lot of force to close the door as you would be pressurizing the cabin as you closed the door

at least that's how i understand it

that is exactly how i have always understood it also...the cabin dont need much air to be let out, thats why there is only one and normally in the trunk

also rippy, that picture you are asking about is the drivers side of the trunk...

I swear I was thinking about putting that in my posting as I was typing it. But obviously I did not type it. Sorry.

Crap, you're right. I thought it was the passenger side. Anyone have a pic of the passenger side and where the wires come down from XM?

Re: GM XM Tuner & Wiring Harness Part #s?

Is there a way to check the NAV Radio # from the NAV Radio itself, or is the only way looking at the number on the back of the unit by pulling it? I could swear I saw a way to check the NAV Radio part # from the NAV Radio itself... It sounds like you're saying based on this VIN, this 19117627 NAV Radio is the XM NAV Radio and should be the one I have, correct?

i do not see another radio # for with xm (yours doesn't say w/o xm)

so you're right, tech2 programming will probably add xm

so now finding the connector end for that module will be the next step (i would guess)

Re: GM XM Tuner & Wiring Harness Part #s?

a TECH2 scan tool can pull the part number
besides that on the back of the radio
and yes it looks like there's only one nav radio,
so the programming of the radio seems to tell it to turn the xm functions on or off

    - so -
if you can find that harness connector you can get a bracket and module then reprogram the radio (probably have to take it to a dealer and that might be tons-o-fun)
and then you'll find out if this can be done
probably can, but i can't say for sure since this is uncharted water

Re: GM XM Tuner & Wiring Harness Part #s?

    that's really good info there
i can pull the full list for you tomorrow if you'd like from the 'vehicle build' (unless you have a copy of it already and that's where you're got this)

what set me for a spin at first was that in my parts catalog it doesn't show descriptions for lots of those codes (especially the relevant xm delete)
like i said, the first gm guy i talked to said there was xm in your car, but the second one reminded me to check the full 'build' outside the catalog in gm's warranty system (which i rarely ever do since the relevant codes are always described in the EPC)

anyways, good luck finding that harness (it might be hidden, taped over on the main bundle)

Curious to know if this was resolved. I have seen this basic problem posted many times, but no resolution, other than hacking up the factory harness.

Re: GM XM Tuner & Wiring Harness Part #s?

^ Has not yet been resolved, due to not trying again -- will attempt more investigation, probably when the weather warms up in Chicagoland... The worry is the harness may not have even been run, due to the XM delete. Then the question becomes how to interface to the same connections, but at the Radio/NAV itself?!

What might be useful is for someone to post photos of where the XM harness attaches to the Radio/NAV on a car that came with it!

Re: GM XM Tuner & Wiring Harness Part #s?

Have not checked myself, but was told by a tech on the phone with usa spec, that makes the pa-15vette, that he had seen the xm harness in CTS's that did not have xm factory. He told me that it would work, just may have to have the xm band turned on by the dealer. Again, have not checked myself, other projects have needed attention first.

Re: GM XM Tuner & Wiring Harness Part #s?

this is an old thread and i didn't go back to read and refresh my memory, but i think the issue with this car is that it had an XM delete option on it which would have forced the radio and harness that did not have the xm options...

but i could be wrong and you might be right because i know that you were told correctly that many of these cars just need to have XM turned on and a module installed

Re: GM XM Tuner & Wiring Harness Part #s?

REDLT4: COOL if true -- someone just needs to be the first to dig in, make the discovery and post pics of the harness's hiding place!

RippyPartsDept: The radio is fine for XM to be turned on (see post #53), just missing the tuner module and still unknown if the harness exists -- THAT part is the real mystery at this point.

Re: GM XM Tuner & Wiring Harness Part #s?

I seem to remember reading in a thread somewhere, that the dealers could not come up with a separate part # for the xm harness, as in, the body harness was the same xm or no xm. This would seem to point to a plug in the harness somewhere for the xm module. It may just be taped up and not easy to find. I won't be able to confirm this for a while, what little car time I get, I'm using to work on the vette.
