I am having this exact problem too! I was told its the EVAP purge Solenoid that is leaking. What you have to do it order the part online for like 21.00 USD shipped and replace it. I am at the stage where i ordered my part so i will let you know how to install once i receive it!

Ditto on the long time no see. Welcome back.

Just to let you know, this will be one of the easiest jobs on this car. Because the device is right on top of the engine on the passenger side. That is if we're talking about the same device. It's the one that ticks after a few minutes of the engine running.

Re: Evaporator Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve

I think it's called EVAP purge solenoid, EVAP is short for something like Emission Vent.... There is a vent canister behind the gas tank and I think this part goes in there. The problem is that you have to remove the rear frame ( not the rear license frame, LOL, the whole rear frame ) to get to the canister. If anyone comes up with an easy way to replace it, let us know.

Re: Evaporator Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve

The vent solenoid is in the canister.
You can access it without major disassembly but it is a pain to reach.
The canister is bolted to the floorpan above the fuel tank and rearward.

The extended crank issue is caused by the purge solenoid not the vent solenoid.
The purge solenoid is located on the engine near the back of the intake.
There is another thread perhaps someone can link up to once this is all settled.
Sammy is trying to get the correct part number to post up for the purge solenoid on a 3.2.

Re: Evaporator Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve

I just had the same problem for about a year was too lazy to figure it out. but this thread is right. when ever my wife went to pump gas and turned the car off it didnt want to start back up at all you had to keep trying and pumping the gas then it would turn over. we had to actually pump gas with the car runnig so it will not cut off. yesterday i went to the cadillac dealer and brought the purge solenoid it cost 60 bucks i am a dealer so it was 40 bucks. if you are standing infront of the car it will be on the left side of the engine. remove the engine cover and you will see it. the only tool you will need is a flat head screw driver and a 10mm socket to remove it. i changed it in less than 5 minutes its that easy. i hope this helps. good luck

Have this problem too. I have the cannister but haven't had it installed yet. In the meantime, pumping gas with the car running and leaving the gas cap off for a few minutes to vent seems to help avoid the noise and starting problems.

Re: Evaporator Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve

Since the vent valve is a normally closed valve, it is reasonable to assume it would fail closed and therefore cause engine shutdown while driving. Since the engine runs normally and the issue only arrises when the gas cap is removed at fill-up, the culprit is most likely the purge valve. Thank God! Mine is doing this and there is no way I could get my hands to the canister to change the vent valve. 130k miles on my 2004 3.6vvt and this is the first issue not a light bulb. Dang nice car! If I could find the same car new, I'd buy it today.
