    Re: Power steering fluid?

dot 3 is clear... it is brake and steering fluid... i dont think that the steering takes transmission fluid, i have never heard of any car like that, my 03 is clear.

    Re: Power steering fluid?

He is correct ... the owner's manual calls for DEXRON III automatic transmission fluid (page 7-23). I'd be very surprised if it were wrong.

    Re: Power steering fluid?

Wow, amazing how the 2003 owner's manual says Dexron-III for power steering fluid and both manual and auto transmissions.

But for the 2006 the power steering uses GM Power Steering Fluid (GM Part No. U.S. 89021184, in Canada 89021186).
    And for the transmissions.....

    Manual
    Transmission
    (CTS)
SAE 75W-90 Gear Oil (GM Part
    No. U.S. 89021806, in Canada
    89021807).

    Manual
    Transmission
    (CTS-V)
    DEXRON®-III Automatic
    Transmission Fluid. Look for
    “Approved for the H-Specification”
    on the label.

    Automatic
    Transmission
    DEXRON®-III Automatic
    Transmission Fluid. Look for
    “Approved for the H-Specification”
    on the label.

So weird how the manual tranny for the CTS uses one kind. While the manual for the CTS-V uses the same stuff as the automatic CTS.

Different manual transmissions, the V has a Tremec t56 and the cts has an Aisin ay6

    Re: Power steering fluid?

oh god, so much wrong information here.
DO NOT USE DOT3 Brake Fluid for power steering!!
I don't know about any cars that is using DOT 3 brake fluid for power steering, in fact most cars do use ATF (Automatic transmission fluid) red in color for power steering. and some car use "Power Steering" Fluid clear or yellow in for power steering.
in the case it is true, First Gen CTS 03-07 Manual Does call for Dexron III (ATF) to used for power steering fluid
ATF is a lubricant, brake fluid is not
if you don't trust me google it yourself

Smh brake fluid transfers hydrologic pressure and is much more dense.. power steering fluid lubricants a ps pump spinning anywhere from 650-6100 rpms. Ive never heard of a single car using brake fluid as power steering fluid.. on the other hand almost every new Chrysler product and most fords use ATF. ATF in my opionin is better because if it can take the temperatures and beating from my trans. Im pretry sure it will handle the ps
