but where did you get that first post you quoted?? this thread?
another thread ... if you click the little arrow in the quote it will take you there....
My small contribution
Sorry for the pics made with my iPhone
Tools used to fix
3rd brake light & rear trunk bezel reassembly on the car... Final pic.
Tools list that I used :
Big flat screwdriver to remove push pins trunk lid "garnish"
10 metric pipe wrench to remove hex nuts that attach the rear trunk bezel & the center high mounted brake light
Torx 20 screw driver bit to separate the 3rd brake light from the rear trunk bezel
Heat gun (thanks to my neighbor) & cutter knife to open the 3rd brake (take your time, don't pull or wait with the heat gun on the lens or it will crack...)
Torx 10 screw driver bit (I remember now) to remove the mirror like support of the two original neons
- Secondarily - A soldering iron & some tin wire to solder the wires of the black & white stock wire & led strip wires (don't stay too long on the solder, led strip wires are too fine & finally burn, I had to redo the solder again. A tip, the thin led stip wire over copper color is the positive & the darker is the negative (memory), but test before soldering
A putty knife
And of course a 120cm red led strip bought on ebay for 2€ (shipping is free for USA from memory) & a clear silicone sealant (I use loctite 595 approximatively 40-50ml)
If anyone has a question I'd be happy to answer them. It is through this forum that I have done my first car repairs (I started with an oil change, a rear driver side window regulator repair, trans & diff oil change & soon front brake pads change)
Forums can only be alive if people participate.
3 years now I owned my caddy & I often visit this forum so informative & helpful, it more than time with my little skills to give people the urge to engage in (small) self-repair.
Bonne soirée

C'est bon, monsieur.
Would you please read post #23 of the European thread ? I rewrote your explanations and await your approval.
Strange, I notice your middle section of your tail lights light up for your brake lights. Mine the top, round section are the brake lights. Must be a european thing!
i love seeing this thread pop up every once and a while.. im glad that its saving you guys some $.
Does anyone know where to get the replacement neon tube for the 3rd brake light (CHMSL)? Ive seen a a CTS locally with the LED's, and I prefer the neon look.
Concorso, are you checking with the key on? I won't light up if it's not
it costs more and is a little harder to wire but not bad.
