I have a 2004 CTS 3.6L, i have a whining noise, I looked around and I think it may be the alternator, but I wanted to know if there is a way to find out where its actually coming from?
1. Have someone else drive car while you climb under hood and sit there.
or
2. Get a stethoscope. Keep in mind that the alternator will be fairly loud as a result of brushes and commutator.
3. Check fluid level in power steering pump. Some p s pumps do whine on various cars. BG power steering additive (sold by many dealers and NAPA) is an excellent product to elim whine in Fords.)
maybe your differntial then?? the timiing chain doesnt need to be changed or have maintance unlesss there is a problem
