50,000-Mile Maintenance for 2006 CTS

Remove this ad
I’ll start with an apology but I haven’t found anything helpful on 50,000 mile maintenance after looking for quite some time and searching several different ways. So, if I’ve missed it, my apologies. Please direct me there.

That said, bought a 2006 CTS 3.6L six months ago. Have put a little over 2,400 miles on it, but, am slowly creeping toward 50,000 – and the end of the OEM warranty. The dealership sent me a card a few weeks ago with a whole list of stuff that is supposedly in need of doing. I do have an extended GM warranty that I bought from them. So … WHAT do I have to have done in order to keep my warranty in force? Or, what should I have done? Is there anything I can tell them to stuff without risking the validity of my warranty? Is there anything I should definitely have done before the warranty expires?

I love, Love, LOVE this car and really do try to keep on top of all of it. (This from someone who would rarely wash a car before and now runs for the hose at the first sign of dirt.) Appreciate any help you can offer.

Re: 50,000-Mile Maintenance for 2006 CTS

50k miles, what I would do and this is my personal opinion:

flush the transmission fluid
flush the differential fluid
change the brake fluid
change power steering fluid

Depending which maintenance you have done before (maintenance one or two), I would do the number 2.

But thats me.

If you follow the owners manual, you have almost nothing to do.

Re: 50,000-Mile Maintenance for 2006 CTS

Thanks, Spyke. This is VERY helpful.

I'm assuming the differential flush could be bypassed as I just had the recall work (Recall ID# 36904) done a few months ago. It was sold to me with an open recall ticket!

Recall Summary
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE REAR AXLE PINION SEAL DOES NOT MEET ALL OF THE SPECIFICATIONS AND MAY EXPERIENCE A FLUID LEAK.

Consequence
A REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE MAY CAUSE LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER AND POSSIBLY LOSS OF CONTROL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PINION SEAL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 1, 2008.
