Transmission question

Can anyone tell me what's going on with my trans.
Last week I went driving in the Cascade Mountains in Washington. I was driving about 60 mph through some of the passes. Then I came to some steep downgrades, about 6-7%. Around some of the curves when I slowed down to around 30mph, my transmission downshifted. When I sped up, the transmission would not shift up but stayed in the lower gear and the rpms jumped to about 6000 at about 40 mph. The only way I could correct the problem was to come to a complete stop and then start up again. This happened each time I got to a steep downgrade. This happened to me about a year ago, but I had the trans replaced --the planetary gears were shot. This is the first time I've had it in the mountains since then. Any help would be appreciated.
