New exhaust and it sucks so bad

Remove this ad
I got my new exhaust put on this weekend and i have to tell all off you that it sucks so bad. I hate it so much, i feel embarrassed driving my car around, it sounds like some pos honda. A friend of mine has a friend who works at an exhaust shop so i figure i would put my trust in him withi his knowledge and let him set me up with something.
This is what was put on:
2 1/4 inch pipeing
2 turbo mufflers
2 magnaflow exhaust tips..

I hate it i hate it i hate it. So now i have to do another exhaust. Im going with magnaflow x-pipe, maganaflow dual in/dual out muffler with straight pipes to maganaflow tips. And if this doesnt work out im going to go for x-pipe and stock mufflers.
I have sound clips of what my car sounds like now, but i have to convert them. I'll post them when i have them converted.

Re: New exhaust and it sucks so bad

It's hard to get a V6 exhaust to not sound ricey. Magnaflow is a good bet, as they have one of the deepest tones out there.

Good luck man.

Re: New exhaust and it sucks so bad

I went thru many different exhaust set ups on my 1991 SHO with the Yamaha V6. I added 2.25" equal length Y-pipe to a 2.5" mandrel bent pipe to another "Y" to 2 2.25" magnaflows. The sound had a terrible rasp and was very loud. I added 2 2.5" bullet style magnaflow mufflers between the two "Y"'s. The rasp was gone and the tone is low but not too loud. The exhaust is still louder than the Corsa I have on the STS-V. I would add a bullet style magnaflow muffler to see if the exhaust sound better. I recommend the Magnaflow because most of the bullet style mufflers shown to me had perforations that protruded into the exhaust stream while the Magnaflow did not implede the exhaust flow.

Spend the money and get the Corsa. Excellent performance and sound. There are several clips on you tube with different exhaust systems. I used Corsa and highly recomend it.

Phatguy - I just looked through your album and have to say you have one beautiful CTS - some really unique mods, great looking car.

One question - with the corsa exhaust, am I looking at 2 seperate resonators under the car or do they reposition the cats to that location?

Re: New exhaust and it sucks so bad

NO CORSA!

There is a video on here a guy posted with his 3.6L, X Pipe, Magnaflow dual in/out muffler ran out to two tips and it sounds GREAT! Go with what you said I think everyone that has done that loves it. And way cheaper than corsa.

Thanks Bigdawg. What do you know about the Corsa? What do you have on yours if you have one.

Re: New exhaust and it sucks so bad

There is a link to the video of what I'm talking about, but it keeps saying error occurred..hmm.

I don't have anything but was seriously considering it. You can do this setup for like $300 max. And the video makes the car sound GREAT. Too bad it doesn't work.

EDIT*** hmm the video works on here...nvm! Enjoy!

My basterd exhaust got pieced together over time and came out very nize. It was a Dynomax catback without a resonator replaced by a cherry bomb type muffler/resonator. Added a catless Y and then threw on 2 Edelbrock mufflers. Without the cherry bomb, it sounded like an early IRL car. With it, it was much more subdued. Virtually zero rasp and a ton of compliments.

All by chance...

Re: New exhaust and it sucks so bad

People say how much they like the sound of my Corsa all the time. I dont hear much inside the car but from what people say it sounds great when I get on it. Im happy with it just fine. And its been on for 4 years now. Held up perfect. my 2 cents.
