2004 CTS Power Seat Failure

Remove this ad
Both seats failed - movement and lumbar support. I suspected and replaced the fuse - but seats still do not work. Since both seats failed at the same time, are there relays, switches, or other places for failure? Pretty evident that power is not getting to the motors.

Re: 2004 CTS Power Seat Failure

check the wires under the seats, there's one power wire that rubs against this metal bracket and the shielding can break, causing the wire to ground out which causes both the seats to stop working. The fuse box under the rear seat also gets pretty hot as stays that way till the grounded wire is fixed.

This happend to me on the drivers side. I took the seat off and taped up the wire, and wrapped some rubber hose around it. Did the same to the passanger side to prevent this from happening there.

hope this helps

Re: 2004 CTS Power Seat Failure

You mind telling what color are the power wires? Also it's it a shield and 12+ only. Or shield, ground and 12+? Just curious as I don't have this problem, and if I do. At least I know what to look at first.

Thanks,

KOT

Re: 2004 CTS Power Seat Failure

I don't remember what color the wire was. It's the main power wire to the motors under the seat. When I say "the shielding can break" I mean the plastic shielding around the wire carrying power to the seat. In my experience it was only power wire that got frayed.

If you end up having this problem, once you pull off the seat and look at the wires, it'll be pretty obvious which one is shorted; there will be a burnt looking spot on the wire.
