Exclamation 2006 CTS Key Programming

Remove this ad
I've been reading a lot about how simple programming a spare key was, so I decided to do it myself instead of paying the dealer $150. I bought a blank with PK3+ for $25 and got it cut for an additional $5. Programming would have cost $60 at this shop, so I refused it and tried it myself.

I put in the original key to on, but did not crank the engine.
took it out and put in the spare.
It was able to turn on the car, but it said "Service Theft System". I waited 10 minutes or so for the security light to turn off, but it didn't. I took turned off the car and was able to turn on the engine again with the spare immediately after, but it said "Disabling Starting, Please Remove Key". The spare can turn the car on, but is unable to crank the engine without putting the original key in first.

Please help me, I have no idea what to do and I really dont' want to pay the $60 since money is pretty tight.

Re: 2006 CTS Key Programming

Obviously the original key still works right?
The correct procedure is to put in the orinigal key to the on posistion.
Remove and insert the second with in 10 seconds. Turn to the on. Wait like 7 seconds. Then remove the key, reinsert to test.

Re: 2006 CTS Key Programming

Does anyone know if you can buy one of the newer cadillac keys and program it to work in an 05 CTS.

The reason is the key for my CTS is black with a little metal black and white cadillac logo thats stuck on and is now all scrated up and kinda peeling off. I've seen a newer cadillac key which is colored and looks a lot better. But I don't know if I will work with my car.

Anyone know or tried it before.

Re: 2006 CTS Key Programming

The key (no pun intended) here is to wait for the security light to go out.

Put in your "master" key or the one the car already knows.
Wait for the light to go out (the little car with the padlock) and then turn the key off, swap in the key you wish to program, then wait again for the security light to go out.
You are done.

Whether or not the key will work depends on the grooves in the side, they have to be compatible with the notches in the lock.
Otherwise a PK3 blank is a PK3 blank.
If it has a transponder and will fit in the cylinder then it will program and work.
